Siesta

Sleeping softly,
dreaming deep
where the mind and heart
are not at war,
but instead are boon companions
I found you waiting
a single rose in your hand,
speaking to me with your eyes
in a way I could taste and feel.
I went into your arms
as liquid satin
found the place
where I have always been
and leaned against you
with a sigh that was a prayer too.
Your kiss was tender
electric
tasting of sweet wine and salsa
and when you took my lips
like something you owned
and deeply treasured
I went cell deep
and seized your hand
at the last instant
to drag you in with me
so that we would sleep
in the same skin.
No battle of flesh---
no surrender,
just you and I
five steps beyond touch
in the world of ahhhs
and in the very instant
when I would have cried your name,
your lips covered me yet again
and we spiraled sweetly
together in a warm thick sea,
arms making one instant
a benediction,
so that I understood
to my very soul
that sleep can be something holy.
