Chains That Bind

I reached out to you
Tried to help you find yourself
Gave you a love that was true
Now, I place your memory on a shelf

I put myself out, on that limb
Went against everything I had ever known
But, you just loved me, on a whim
And, now, your true face you have shown

I fought so hard, to set you free
But a cage is all you are
I lost my heart, to you, and me to me
It should not have gone this far

I cannot save the world, someone once told me
"No", I said, "but I can try."
I just simply refused to see
A lie for a lie

I'm way beyond the pain
I'm way beyond the hope
No more walks in the rain
I think you'll be able to cope

Don't speak, there's nothing left to say
I can't listen to your lies, anymore
You broke my heart, but I loved you anyway
Now it's time to close that door

You beat me up, with all you did
Physically, your words were enough
I now see what you hid
Think I should stay with you...tough

And the only thing left to do
Is go on my merry little way
