dragonflies

it is one day a year
when they mate
and come out while the air is warm and moist
their tiny bodies seeking out
another one of their kind
to harvest their flesh into
for them to live yet again, another summer
these dragonflies
flying before me
with their bodies intertwined
shaped into contortions defying the gravity
that their wings created
they floated
levitating in the humid air
then as if it seemed their seredipitous
bodies would break
their bodies formed the shape of a heart
i watched them in awe
thinking that if i had a day to live
i would want to spend it
as what i had just beheld
