I Should

Here's a secret, that I hold
Here's a truth I strive to hide
Here's what hasn't been told
I said I hate you, well, I lied

I should hate you, with a doubt
But, that's just not my way
You don't hear me, even if I shout
Because you're so far away

And these rhymes just write themselves
Almost against my will
I've tried to place you, on those shelves
But, there's no space left to fill

I'm a fool, I know I am
To try to forgive you
Let the lion lay with the lamb
That old story begins anew

Rewind, stop, fast-foward, play
Whichever button, it does not matter
The movie contiunes, day by day
Among all the idle chatter

I walked away
But you came back
Begging to have your say
Realizing all you lack

You broke down, crying on your knees
Giving truths instead of lies
You crossed lands and seas
Just to fix these tattered ties

I gave you chances, more than most
Each one you shattered
Quickly, you became a ghost
And forgot all that mattered

But, now you are, flesh and bone
I finally can see your face
And the bells ring, true to tone
You've finally filled that empty space

I let you go, but here you are
Standing right in front of me
I didn't get to go very far
The truth finally had set you free

I thought this was done
I thought you a liar
But what was done, now seems undone
And I burn with the heat of a fire

I'm letting you back into my life
Giving you another chance, the last
You better not make the same mistake twice
For then the past will stay the past
