The Best Man

If my heart were a little smarter
It would have chosen you to love
And though my heart remains unmoved
You are the one I’ve always dreamed of

Honey, I know how much you love me
And there’s nothing you wouldn’t do
To keep me safe and happy
And to make all my dreams come true

But the Best Man doesn’t always win
I know this much to be a fact
Because if my heart were a little smarter
Lying beside you is where I’d be at

My mind thinks of you often
And dreams of all that could be
But right or wrong – it’s my heart I’ll follow
Otherwise I simply wouldn’t be me

You’ll never know how many times I’ve wished
My foolish heart would wake up and see
You are the one I’ve always wanted
Yes – you should be the one for me

But the Best Man doesn’t always win
I know this much to be a fact
Because if my heart were a little smarter
Lying beside you is where I’d be at

Isn’t Life and Love ironic?
To meet the man I’ve spent a lifetime waiting for
Only to find my heart does not skip a beat
Perhaps it doesn’t live here anymore

It’s a battle I wager within myself every day
Do I settle for you and simply give up
Knowing that the one my heart has chosen
Will probably never measure up?

Because the Best Man doesn’t always win
I know this much to be a fact
Because if my heart were a little smarter
Lying beside you is where I’d be at

It is possible that my heart may not love you ever
But in my mind know that I will be loving you Forever…
