Distantly In Love

Weeks spent beside you
attempting physical connections as a way to get closer
mistaking any sort of affection for love

Funny how,
when you are hungry
just about anything tastes good.

Forsaking quality for quantity,
I lost my ability to look in your eyes
and understand.

Tonight, I wrap the phone cord in circles around my waist.
We still argue
but distance feels more about geography than two hearts beating out of sync.

I wait for the day when you cross every border.
Once again I will hold you hand
and our simple silence will satisfy.
