I can buy my own flowers

I can buy my own flowers,
spare me the chocolates
I don't need someone
to support me
like a lifeless flower
needs a tall vase
[I can hold my own self up]

I will not be defined in
the context of
someone else's actuality

what I need [want?]
is someone
whose touch that I crave
as he does mine
whose demeanor is sweet,
never hurtful or crass
whose faithfulness
I do not question

because I would much rather
have a bouquet of
fulfilled expectations
than an entire florists shop
full of day old flowers.
