Destiny's Irony

It seems our love has existed since before the dawn of time.
In all of our lifetimes I wonder were we cursed by Destiny’s irony?
Before the Age of Man, I’m certain even then it was possible.
Perhaps you were the day and I the night…forever searching for one another -
Longing for the sunrise and sunset to bring us together if only for a few moments in time.
Why does Love always have to be a test and can it truly breach all barriers?

You must have been a flower and I the bee that buzzed around you endlessly.
Or perhaps I was a moth and you the fire whose flame beckoned me.
Why must I always be a Capulet and you a Montague?  Or I a pauper and you a fair prince?
Even our brief times together - always one of us too blinded by the glare of the other’s love to see what was right in front of us.

Just once I’d give anything to have fate and time on our side.
Must we always be star-crossed lovers?
Ships passing in the night, fated to walk this earth so close and yet so far from one another?
A love strong enough to span all our lifetimes, but cursed to remain unconsummated?.
Is it wrong to love so deeply – is that why our heart’s desire must be forsaken time and again?

Just know that I will always love you and I pray one day we’ll be where we belong – together.
If not in this lifetime – then perhaps next time Fate will be kinder and allow us more than just a stolen kiss or embrace.
So fair thee well and keep my heart safe until time and circumstance become our friends…
