The house

He was leaving
And all she could do was watch him leave
He Stepped into his old truck
And drove away thru the gates
A cloud of dust behind him
Nothing she would do nor say would have stopped him
She stood on the wooden porch
Not fully realizing he wasn't coming back, ever
She was surprised that there weren't any tears
She stood In the same position she watched him drive out of her life
For hours
Rewinding the tape she had in her head over and over again
Analyzing everything, every kiss, every I-love-You, every smile
Just staring down the road believing he would come back, soon
But as the hours past she slowly came out of the trance
And believing he would come back, became hoping
She stood there untill the sun was turning orange on the horizon and slowly disapering
At last the moon and stars came
A cool breeze in her face
She stood up and turned to the house
And saw the bench were they had spend nights talking and sharing secrets
She heard him sing to her and play the guitar again
And felt the cool touch of his hand on her body
Inside the house she saw the kitchen where they made breakfast on sundays
In the bedroom she saw the bed were they had slept in each others arms for so many years
In the bathroom she found an old razor and a little cologne bottle he had forgotten
And finally she knew
He was gone, not coming back
No more talks on the porch while he would play his guitar
No more pancacks and coffee smell in the house on sundays
When he would make breakfast in bed for her
No one to hold her at night
Memories would haunt her for a long time to come
Memories of the two of them together in this house, their house
And when she looked up into the mirror she saw a tear roll down her cheek
She would be allright, time heals all the scars and pain...
