Love's Rose and Thorn (revised)

There’s an antique rose in my garden,
tiny buds of creamy white with golden centers,
and a fragrance beyond compare.
Yet for the beauty of this rose,
you fear the deadly long thorns.
You see, unless you’re very careful,
it will prick your fingers, or pierce your heart.
So you take deep breaths, inhaling magnificence.
Dreaming dreams, knowing ecstasy, yet feeling
pain of the thorns, thinking you’ll be so brave,
get close to the bloom that trys to keep you away,
yet pulls you back in again and again, sighing,
of love’s rose and thorn passion play.
