Power of Her Words

There was silence, as she looked at him
Out from beneath her dark lashes
This was the time whre they would usually just hug
And say goodbye
But, today was different, and she was scared
So scared that her whole body shook in his arms
And she found breathing less than easy
"What's wrong?"
She could hear concern in his voice
But, she waited a moment before answering him
For she knew what she was about to say
Would forever change their relationship
With a deep breath, she started
"I know that I shouldn't say this...
that you probably don't want to hear this because...
Well, just because..."
At this he let go of her, and stepped back, just slightly
So that he could see her face
He was watching her cautiously, curiously
She felt like she was going to faint
Pulse racing, stomach in knots, lightheaded
She could feel the power of her words
Building up inside her, flowing in her veins
Begging to be released, spoken, shared
She contiuned, blurted out her truth
"I love you."
There.  There is was out, in the open
And there she was, an easy target
A would-be easy target, for him
Because he could so easily have crushed her
With a look
With silence
Or with speech
And, it seem to her, lifetimes, eons
Before he reacted to her
It was as if time had stopped, to prolong anticipation
So, agian, she spoke
"Now, I don't expect you to love me back,
Or say it back, but I just thought that
You should know..."
Her words were cut off, by his kiss
A kiss of passion, and, yes, of love
Sentiments that were echoed minutes later
When their mouths were parted
"I love you more than I can say..."
And, at that, she cried...
