Lesson Learned

You are
hiding
lurking
waiting for me
behind every corner.

I move with caution
carefully avoiding the traps
set to capture my heart.

I am a fleeting moth,
ignoring the illusion of comfort,
the enticing warm glow of the candle
beckoning me urgently
to an insignificant flicker of a death.

I am a mouse with three legs,
avoiding the hateful cheese
of recent stinging memory.

I am a bloodied cat,
who is no longer curious
who no longer has doubt
and who crosses the street
when the air brings the scent of his vicious rival
nearby.

You are hiding
lurking
waiting for me
behind every corner

but I am wary now...
