THE BRIDGE

       THE BRIDGE

Sunlight dancing on the brook,
Beneath the heavy bridge,
Illuminates the flowered hue
Along the water's edge.
Ivy twined upon the stone,
That forms the ramparts ridge,
Shades old script, anciently
Etched upon the bridge.

Moss descending down the walls
Of rocky eloquence,
Envelops five faded words
Inspired by circumstance.
"YOU AND NO OTHER",
Carved deep in old cement,
Lingers there in solitude
Upon that monument.

A bridge that spans a thousand years,
Immortalizing love,
Touches down on perfumed shores
For souls to cross above.
And those whose hearts found these words
Etched upon that stone,
Reached the other side of life
Enriched....... and unalone.
