Come What May

The easiest thing I have ever done,
was to slip into your arms and heart,
and the first time you touched me
I cried,
but you did not know,
I hid my face
so you would not taste those tears.
And I started loving you,
knowing that forever
was not an option,
and each moment was manna and honey,
and I told myself I could give you
the freedom you needed,
swore my arms would never hold you back,
so long as I could hold you
and your kiss was so damned sweet,
honey from the comb,
that I told myself
I could store up a lifetime of you,
and never regret a damned instant
come what may.
If I was foolish,
then I was.
But I can't regret what is.
I can't regret what was.
If I can't be your tommorow,
come what may,
then at least my darling love,
I know I was your today.
