Squinting into the Sun

I haven't forgiven you for that fight
when you made me cry in the car;
that day when I was wearing
my new pink blouse.
Did you remember that it had little flowers,
and piping on the sleeves?

And why do my best thoughts occur in the shower,
without luxury of pen and paper?
As the water dries from my hair, so goes
any talented words that could make me
rich; rich before my 35th birthday.

Is it better to be rich when you're young
or after the roses have left your cheeks?
Hurry and tell me...
my bloom in nearly gone.

When I fell in love with you,
I thought you were smart enough
to tell me why the Rubaiyat is so important...

but you see better things in the distance...
where the sun sets out West.
