It Can't Be Undone

Painted smiles,
and hidden tears.
Memories of forgotten years.

Sorrow haunts the heart,
of child's past.
Summer days gone by too fast.

Why did you hurt her?
Didn't you know,
how she loved you so?

Didn't you love her,
or even care?
Why is life so unfair?

She tries to get on with her life,
keeping busy so not to remember.
But time only adds to the flames like old timber.

It's hard for her to trust,
or even to love another.
Especially since the beast was in the figure of her father.

A man she should have been protected by,
a man that for his daughter, should have laid down his life.
Instead he has only caused her pain and strife.

She tries to forget,
and she tries to forgive.
But with the haunting memories, life isn't easy to live.

You say you are sorry and that you regret,
all the damage that you have done.
But the past can't be undone.
