What It Feels Like W/ An Empty Heart

The paint on the wall is faded from the pictures that were admired there for so long.
The fireplace is so cold and bare without the stockings hung and the candles lit.
The cupboards were taken out: they were pointless with no appetite to fill them.
The sink in the bathroom has been cleared of the mindless clutter that hasn't been used in ages.
The rocking chair in the hall doesn't rock with joy any longer because there is no child to comfort.
The blankets off the bed are no use now, packed in hidden rooms away from the freezing lives that need them
The paint that's spilling out of an open bottle left on the floor is finally hardening with no one left to clean it.
The infant crying in the bassinette has no mother to soothe its tears and hold it until it sleeps.
And the hearts of the lives that lived here are hardened to things like that.
