LIKE YESTERDAY

LIKE YESTERDAY

Feel this, it was so many years ago now.
It was like yesterday.
She met your smiling self and familiar words,
in a memory then, and now and then building.
Found herself willingly drawn in,
enchanted by politeness,
kindness and all the attention.
A certain flair was there, then and now,
and yet, she had a feeling to run.

She wondered, why take a risk
with a heart too fragile to bear more.
Yet, she bared all to you each day.
Then she pulls herself inside herself.
Not sure, unwell, ill, sick at heart.
Feeling nobody will never really find her,
and afraid she is going to be right.
It was so many years ago now.
It was like yesterday.

No one else had looked hard enough,
long enough to see the frightened soul.
Lingering as long as the world holds
light, beauty and tinkling music
of waterfalls and her windchimes.
Marvel at her, as she dances to these.
Enjoy her words, visions, abilities.
Seeing vistas, depths more vividly,
enough to paint them years later.

Calling her a beauty, he watched, listened.
Her humming songs of unknown composers
the world passes by unmoved, never hearing.
Seeing the light and the art, nature's muse
and audience with critique unstrung
in all that surrounds her, time mingling.
Reaches, touches, pulls back and never grasps
anything or everything -- afraid all
will fail her even as she grows to love.

Even you, who captivated her ...
so many years ago now,
keeping her awake days and nights,
and filled her dreams when she did sleep --
like yesterday, like death fading, like love.
Where are you now, in fantasy or reality,
with your promises of yesterday?
It was so many years ago now.
It was like yesterday ... do you feel this?.
