Cherry Bayou and the Smiling Cypress Catfish

Word o' his conquests storm 'round the area like pack o' wild boars,
An' recount tales 'bout he th' fox sneakin' chicks outta back doors,
Mouth only thing run faster than he do if men catch him on the make,
Offerin' no excuse for wild ways better than he do what he can take.
But when news of his nights w' Amelia Johnson became commonly known,
Our Casanova escaped to Cherry Bayou 'cause his cover had been blown.

Her husband was blinded by rage, and swore vengeance would be sweet,
Got himself three boys and shotguns; all preparations were complete.
They comb every inch o' the shores, make sure no stones was unturned,
When one of 'em sighted smoke to the East where his campfire burned.
Sneakin' off the boat, they storm him and aim they guns for his head,
An' discover three times they own in lawmen got drop on them instead.

Sheriff say to drop their arms and leave faster than they had arrive,
For he detested vigilantes more than leavin' this homewrecker alive.
Johnson resist, but his henchman deserted and he knew cause was lost,
As he left he tell th' posse they couldn't count what this would cost.
Stories tend to conflict; we know twelve unison shots shook the place,
An' Cypress Catfish seem much larger now, great big smile on they face.
