Hammer Blues

That ol' clock told no lie, as Sarah come in half past too late,
On the very night her husband decide he stayin' up and wait.
When she sensed him sittin' in th' dark, she became terrified,
'Cause o' the thoughts o' what he do, discoverin' she had lied.
Face to face with th' truth at last, John's silence say it all,
Punctuated by the gun in his hand and bullet holes in the wall.

Afore she could say word one in defense, John start to talkin',
"Every mouth in town chewed my ear 'bout you out streetwalkin'.
Didn't wanna believe 'em, but guess I always knew it was true,
Decided to do nothin' 'bout it 'til I discuss things wit' you."
His gaze turn to his weapon an' his eyes narrowed with a sneer,
"Nothin' you could say can argue with what we gots right here."

On that John stand up, walk toward his wife, who plead in vain,
Lookin' for love in his eyes, but betrayal was all that remain.
One bullet went in the chamber, spun around like roulette game,
He raise the gun toward his head, cock the hammer and took aim.
"You tell me where this goes, woman, whether we live or we die,
Though we in this together, I'm givin' you only one more try."
