What is love?

What is love?

In order to answer this question you have to understand the basics of language. Humans invented language to communicate to one another their ideas, emotions, situations, and/or beliefs. As humans we use symbols that are used to associate with ideas/things/situations. For example we use the symbol "human being" to identify who we are. However, it is the idea of a human being that conflicts with the symbol. Both are not directly related. For example some may consider a fetus a "human being" while others would disagree. The direct relation between an idea/thing/situation may not relate to its own symbol. Another example is murder. We all know what murder is. But would you consider abortion, euthanasia, and war part of the definition of murder? Is that doctor, nurse, or solider no different than a low life murdering thug? The answer is a matter of personal opinion and what those words/symbols mean to you.

Such is the case with love. Some may consider love an act while others consider it an emotion while others consider it both. There are some that may associate love with lust. Who are we to say what love is when love, like all symbols/words/ideas/emotions can mean many different things to many different people?

So, what is love?

I don't know, but I know what it means to me.

What does it mean to you?
