Sea Glass

I never called you
By your real name,
Never got down from these heights
And tried you on for size--
But you blame me
For a smile, miles lost
On wisdom that flew underground.
Green is the color--
But is it jealousy, the kind
That comes in ardent waves?
I am walking in the shades of Spring,
Waiting for your honesty to fade
From pretending to truth--gazing
In the looking glass, but only seeing
The shadows of change. How I love
Those jaded eyes, soft set jewels
That brings reason to its knees--
But I only revel in the moment
That has yet to be tasted,
Untouched, ripe on the vine.
I am elusive, but you are
So much more so than I,
With your sea glass colored ways,
Gliding with a rhythm
Like that of a newly turned leaf--
I am weak underneath all these layers
Obscene, with a bitter apple in hand,
Who knows what you are now?
I only know what you were then,
And it is jealousy that abides tonight,
Stark emerald against what never was.
