ATTEMPTED LOVE POETRY

ATTEMPTED LOVE POETRY

With all my years of love and poetry attempts,
I ponder the real intent/content in poets' words.
Now that you mention it, who loved, passionately,
more than their oft quoted vaulted words,
old Nietzsche, Walden, Thoreau and Plato?
I've wondered, do you know?

There are those who read great works
and come to the conclusion -- IT is.
Then those who will go sit transcendentally
in cow pasture or by puddle and feel the breeze,
and note surely that -- IT is.
How could they really know?

But in reading them closely again
in some perceived enlightenment,
(for myself, so not so profound or poignant)
finally finding what's real, did they know?
Maybe, I'm still too green as a human being to ask.
Still, how well did they know IT?

Today, I sit by your knee
to listen to a simple sea chanty,
and realize . . . is anything simple?
(is this what is meant by real clarity or revelation?)
I've only to look in your eyes
to simply see the real truth -- LOVE is.

And in those true eyes realize another truth.
Looking deep, find more, yes more of what IT is
there than anywhere else in this world;
real strength shining back at me,
stronger than my floundering written attempts
at any "LOVE" I've tried to poetically memorialize.
