Conflict

I'm not shackled
My lips are free to entwine with folds of flesh
Yet there's a dull thumping in my head
Where my heart should be
You can't hear it through the glass screen that's protecting you, or me
From my emotions

Whoever would have thought things could get so complicated just because you handed me your heart?

I'm holding it tight
But the spaces between my fingers are widening
So many before me have let it fall...
I can see the hope and fear converging in your eyes.

I don't love you, I say
But still I claw into your core
Refusing to release you to search elsewhere.

My sea of emotions can't reach you,
But through the glass you watch every wave.
