Morning Ritual

The sun peeks over the blistering buildings
Past the red concrete
Peering through the garish blinds
And into the sparsity of your bedroom.
I wait for you to rise.

The air sweeps over the yellowing trees
Playing over the dark hollows of the nearby alleys
Seeping past the indents of your windows
To dance on your barren skin.
I wait for you to rise.

The silence covers the earth like fresh dew
Sheathing its weight over us
Over me
Over you.
I wait for you to rise.

I lay my head back down.
I block out the sun
Cover my skin
Drone out the silence.

That's when you nudge me awake
And
Tell me to wake my lazy ass up.
