Dancing Out The Plank: A Fool

Dancing Out the Plank: A Fool

you'd think I'd learned, but I don't
so learn from me what I won't ...

dancing out this worn plank anew
good grief! what's this fool to do?

so over and over, I've tested this
and you just stand there with list

one I've compiled yet once again
the first item, sure wasn't a whim

tired of waking alone in the night
say something to make this right?

worrying on one thing or another
shouldn't I talk about this, lover?

was happiness ever going to be?
or gone, drifting away from me

it's loaded with memories, sure
but distorted, downright obscure

so dancing before the plank snap
all I sense is your one-hand clap

will I save myself dancing away
or take my chances in this bay?

on the plank with my last excuse
in floating relationship out of use

oh, make me realize it's up to me
so not cling to what shouldn't be

a plank is all that holds me here
just waiting for my head to clear

I was strong, one who decides ...
jump before the rise of the tides!

I can't after looking in your eyes
smiles again, you aren't surprised

needs are what brought me here
only the unknown the worst fear

so I retreat from what I don't know
sign-on again for this reality show

reprieve, fall from a plank's grace?
no, just a tumble back into place

I fumble my last rehearsed line
don't toss me one, back in I climb

left an unknown future for the pen
caged by a known again and again

in wasting years with each other
we miss a chance for a real lover

in mismatched, here two hearts beating out of time
would that love be simple as two words that rhyme
