the dogs of december

the canine yells ring with truer animosity in the winter air
galloping swift and viscious through the frozen night
those wordless monosyllables of hatred and fear
saying what i, in all my verbosity, cannot express
the dogs of december
my voice.....for i havent one of my own

spring tarries in another land
while winter sends the chill night air to embrace me
and carry to my ears
the endless barking of love lost
a constant piercing reminder of all i never had

cause its so much harder when the temperature drops
when a warm body to hold is so inviting
let the sun rise eternal
and warm the frozen earth
burning away my desire with the swealtering fire

but i wander in the cool summer nights
and think how sweet love would be
in the honey suckle twighlight
when the air hangs heavily passionate
like a sultry kiss ripe with desire

each season has its yearnings
whether love is a cool drink of water
or a hot cup of tear
i'll never satiate my thirst.
