(1) "our 'somewhere in time' man died today" you say this morning while getting dressed in the other room and i turn on the news to see christopher reeve's face and footage of his wife singing some beautiful blue cabaret number followed by the next story from our hometown of a balloon wrapped around a radio tower with leagues of bosque and bajada and impossibly high desert grassland stretching out in the background (2) molson ice is evil i know this because last night being in new york and all i wanted to throw back some canadian beer but ended up unpacking the car in your black work blazer (because i was cold) and it actually fit pretty decently except for the sleeves which you had rolled up because i guess you have short arms (3) driving back from new england coming into the new york state the green rounded rolling ridges of the highlands become visible suddenly and the surreal nature of it all hits me - i'm in the place that was always home until i found another with the person who is also home and we're talking about weddings and rings and all the things that put the fear of god in me only four short months ago but there's no other way "this is for a lifetime" you say and i agree except it doesn't seem like enough as i hold your hand and drive with the other because the road ahead is straight and we both know exactly where it leads |
