Ride what seems an endless journey, passenger gazing at terra receding as mankind forges, but ahead? Structures of commerce multiplying, reaching an ever more impressive zenith, but unnature in its stead. Dressed sharply in kaleidoscopic attire woven by someone who works not to starve, indeed a living wage, Mingling at soirees organized by specimens more philosophical about their state, fancy ourselves the rage. Designer this, brandname that, work 'til first solstice so representatives can argue where it's best misspent, And on and on we grudge 'bout pachys and asses that won't budge on just what their predecessors meant. I could blame it all on me but I'm a poor example, you see, just another anonymous face in madding crowd, Hands in my pockets as much to reach for what my thoughts are worth as to berate collective inanition aloud. In a moment of introspection, realization is loud and clear of how lives are divided, each presumed the third, One part spent earning keep, another chasing insufficient sleep, the remainder calculating luxuries deferred. Weight upon the mind occasionally, wondering if anything we do makes a difference, someone, somewhere, Once home at the hard-fought patch of dominion purchased from institutions we take a moment not to care. It's everywhere we may go, little pieces of the larger scene, walking through numb to the value of each one, Concrete on your rubber sole, weary feet avoiding other's indeterminate toll, slaving 'til today's task is done. Heartbeat, let it be the guide for child you've a revolution tucked inside if you just believe in purpose or drive, If you will, consider the seminal way the terminal approach their everyday, thankful of miracle of being alive. The Earth will continue to spin and the undeserving will too often win, but if you dare to make it all worthwhile, Only legacy of which your forebears will speak is of how you made yourself unique and did it all in your style. 09/22/2004 |
