This Poem Cares More Than I Do

And then the jester walked in and said
"This is not a joke, this is your life,"
And everybody laughed, for it was funny.
Everything's fake.
Everything is broken and faded
And I can't seem to understand.
I can bend bars with my iron will
And you'll be the first to know
That I've landed on the moon.
But it won't be for you.
It'll be to show you
That I'm more than you ever thought
Or wished for me (which was next to nothing)
You were out for blood and you
Didn't care who
I was the first one you decided was guilty
Well, I didn't turn the last screw
Blame it on the stars
Blame it on me
But in the end you'll know
That it was all a beautiful lie in your head
And at that point, I won't care anymore
I did what I could and that's all you should have asked for
I love that you have the maturity of a two-year wine
(I always forget that my sarcasm leaves me thirsting for a drink)
At least that wouldn't have left a bitter taste in my mouth.
I've tuned out the frequency of your voice
You don't care about me anymore
This is about vindication
And being self-righteous
Because damn if you won't come out on top
I can't make everything okay again
If you say it's all forgotten
I won't write down the license plate
Of the hit-and-run that took our love away.
