Nubble

In the summer a placid seascape
sparkling sun on water, little ripples
licking rock, light foamy waves rushing forth in
joy to tickle our toes
I wore our love like a golden tan
I glowed in the light of your sun.

Time turned toward autumn
I felt cold and distant from our hot
July beach
I startled to feel the water
become icy and grab at my ankles
a grip that chilled me to the bone
long after I jumped back.

The beach grew colder still
a shrivelled sun more white then
golden bore down and the moon ripped
her merciless weight on the water
crashing waves that rocked the snowdusted
beach; there is still room in winter for love
and laughter here but just try to splash
in water that freezes more than your feet.
Winter here is long, Kev,
but if you hang in there
summer will come round again.
