My life is different with you. Maybe this time I'll learn that having someone Doesn't mean desperately hanging on to them. Or that I don't need the constant reassurance that I'll be enough to keep you happy. I'll know by just looking at you. And that you'll come home to me after a night out And miss me in ways you can't explain to yourself. Maybe this time I'll learn to do things on my own, While knowing that when times are hard, I'll have someone I can count on- and that's perfect. Because now I can have dinner with my own wandering mind Without the burning need for companionship. Now I can sit in a parking lot and write a poem- purely for my own satisfaction- Without having to rush off and cater to someone else's needs. But I will take care of you, I assure you that. I'll lay with you when you are tired and be content in our silences- Although you are the loudest person I've ever met. I'll make time for you in this crazy life of ours to stop And simply hold you. And though there is still so much that I have to learn about you, I know that my life is different already. Before, change used to scare me. Now I have come to the realization that the only constant in life is change. And Baby, change is good. |
