For You

       For You
         by Sarah Elizabeth Hume

    I think of you sweetly
in dreams that fall over me like a soft veil.
Your voice hangs like a whispered breath
sweeping across the skin of my cheek.

    I remember your words
as if they were precious beads of rain
    that quench my parched lips,
I bathe in them as if they were a sea.

And though in life I have not witnessed
the memory of your dark eyes,
I feel as if I've held them forever.
They haunt me in lonely darkness
    and caress me in light.

    I think of you sweetly.
