Ghosts

  Ghosts
   by Sarah Elizabeth Hume

  Falling crystal,
surpassing the pearl of broken clouds.
To the earth it falls in whispers
  like ghosts upon the wind.

And through the air the voices haunt me
with visions of dark eyes on cold nights,
when no blankets were needed to warm our frozen flesh
and bodies melted together like snow in June.

Salted tears fall down pale cheeks to the empty spaces
and I hold the emptiness as it trickles down.
Somber are the ghosts of our love that
come in visions as clear as the stars.

They tear into me beyond the wounds
  of earthly cloth,
  So lies my haunted soul...
