Stereotypes and Trespassed Truths

Yes, it's me,
I'm the one--
only, I'm not.  The situation
is just too familiar, a parallel
smile and a pale reflection:
thunder in the distance,
with no threat of rain.

Yes, perhaps,
I seem like all those angry words
that people throw around--
I wear red lipstick, grin as if it doesn't matter,
and yes, okay, I own a pair of lace-up leather pants,
but usually, everyone overlooks something,
a simple, undisguised fact:
my heart does the Cha-Cha on my sleeve,
and most don't even bother to look.

Yes, I know--
I'm inherently flawed (but rebelliously sweet)--
the kind of contradicting depth usually found
in the pages of a novel, or some flickering movie screen--
but I'm more flesh and blood than most.

Yes, I--
well, I'm not exactly sorry,
but I'm more than just a lover,
and I'm more than just his ghost.
