A Life Without Gold

  Black besets the sky
like an ebony jewel gazing into an ivory fountain.
The earth is cloaked in crystal shards
broken and shattered into a fine powder.

Your eyes are deep and murky pools
  that cloud my vision
  and turn crimson wine cold.
Your skin is empty and hollow
like a shell without a spirit
to keep it warm and burning with life.

You are the ageless season floating around us
creeping into glass with frosted hands,
You are the death of summer leaves
and the fading of velvet from the gowns of sweet roses.

Our love was summer gold
which warmed me to the core,
my bones full of hope and my body redeemed.
It has now fallen and winter has come
now it is aching and somber nights upon ice
with nothing to clothe the wounds,
no embers to comfort,
an eternal journey without fruitful rebirth...
