convictions

and words can hurt
so much it seems
taken apart
context found
met
pause 'tween each
read...

Hitler...altered the world we see
in his own way
medical science
rocketry
everything around and including the war
advanced all we knew
though he as himself makes a case for infanticide
the human cost of each advance ...
so very...terrible...
Gandhi now
a single man
yet he altered the world
Abigail Adams to Vera Càslavskà, Mary Cassatt to Eleanor of Aquitaine, Gertrude B. Elion to Isabella I, Jane Jacobs to Mata Hari, Matilda of Canossa to Mary Robinson, Eleanor Roosevelt to Zoe
comprises a short list of over 300 women who changed the world
all this of a single person yet...
you are so far beneath all of these
these are all so much better than you
smarter brighter far more pretty... cept Eleanor...
or were they...
hack em apart and grind em down
in flames purify them to their essence
boil them to their cores
and finally
what might you find at the heart of each
conviction
whether right or wrong
their convictions changed the world
even hated they held strong
through pain, heartbreak, some times far far worse
they all held to what they believed even to death
yet they were people like you and me
no smarter, no stronger
jus ordinary people
sometimes holding to a truth
only they could see...
and yet
in tears
i find
you have problems with
an abusive person
so...where do your convictions
lead you?
