Rag Dolls

You can dress me up if you think I'll look prettier.
You can brush my hair if you think it will shine.
You can marry me and Mr. Bear if you think it will make me happy.
You can paint my lips with marker if you think it's my color.

Yet underneath it all...

I am a rag doll, tossed and turned. The paper watch on my arm says time is always the same. I am loved, and yet, no one knows my name.

She has a convertible, top down, and red.
She has a pool, two-story house, and a nice boyfriend.
She always wears a tight smile and the best outfits.
I wonder if Ken understands that underneath she's just...

A rag doll, tossed and turned. She's loved, she's hated, she's perfection earned. She's a Raggedy Ann whose field of flowers is burned.

I'm tossed in a corner, she's tossed in a crowd. My eyes always cry, her eyes always sparkle. My hair is falling out, her hair never moves. My dress has holes, her dress has diamonds. I wonder if Ken will ever know...

She has a convertible, top down, and red.
She drove it off of a cliff--"An accident," Ken said.
Everything and nothing, and the blonde beauty is dead.
Yet, I'll miss her plastic face that always read--

"We're all rag dolls, tossed and turned. Rich, poor, plastic, and stuffed--our hearts still yearn for the day that all the Ken's will say, we're worth it and special simply because we are...rag dolls, tossed and turned."
