Dirty Laundry

The only bit of you I had left
The bed that was ours
Your smell worked into the fibers
Ground deep with love
While we held each other tight
As if we couldn't get enough
As if we never wanted the moment to end
I looked into your eyes
And knew that when I let go
It would
A momentary lapse
Two bleeding hearts
Reaching out through blades
To save each other from the hurt
Leaving us worse off than before
Tears and sweat stinging sharp
Pouring into wounds, into sheets
As I soaked in the last of you
That would ever be completely mine
This moment
Nothing but you and I
And I stayed there for a minute
Longer than a minute had ever known if could be
But even the longest minute has to end
And dirty laundry has to be done
I cried as they spun before me
Washing the last of you away
The last thing I had
The smell of you
Gone
