Resolute About Loving

New Year's 2012: A Reflection

I have never believed in New Year’s resolutions per se. I do believe, as John Maxwell says, “Reflection turns experience into insight. And with that, Emmitt and I started a new tradition: We made a written list of 10 negatives and 10 positives of the past year, along with five hopes and dreams for the coming year, and read them to each other. Serendipitously, as fireworks filled the sky in four directions!

I won’t share our lists, but hearing this was a priceless gift: “Lori, this year you’ve nurtured my body, my spirit, my hopes, and my dreams. You are My Princess. My Love. My Lover. My Cheerleader. My Partner. You have raised me up… You may not be a Saint, but unquestionably, you are an Angel... I said all of those sweet words, but I could have just said one. WIFE.”

We are, without a doubt, resolute about loving each other unconditionally. That is a great way to begin 2012.

In year one of our married life, we are, of course, excited to experience new adventures and create our own traditions. Nevertheless, this prompted me to remind you: You may throw out your “traditions” anytime and re-create new ones!
