* The Blender Board
From: Paul
Date: 1 April 2000

mEg,
If you didn't take offense, then why is it necessary to imply I'm dumb with the term "duh"?

It would seem if a piece of work touches someone positively then its okay to bathe the author in accolades, however, heaven forbid someone should 'take offense' to someone's writing.

I guess if I was black and someone used the 'N' word I shouldn't take offense. And if I am, I should hold my tongue. Otherwise, I'll be percieved as not 'getting it'.

If the Blender Board is here only for pats on the back, then perhaps Kirk should secure it. Give only the regulars the password so that poor, ignorant fools (who aren't 'with it') don't fall into here by accident with opinions of their own.

I didn't attack you. I didn't even attack the work. I simply wondered if you had taken the time to step back and wonder if it was YOUR fault for picking the same type man.

The work didn't say that but I guess I was just suppose to know it. Tell you what. If egos here are that fragile, I will refrain from making any more comments at all.

Again, Peace.

Thanks for the Long Island Ice Tea toast, chica! I still haven't checked my ICQ mail. When I do I'll send ya a lengthy reply, filled with details!
Okay...my favorite "In Love" song: "Crimson and Clover" by Tommy James and the Shondells
"yeah...my my such a sweet thing! I wanna do everything...what a beautiful feeling!"
And my favorite "Sad Love" song: "New Kid in Town" by the Eagles
"you look in her eyes, the music begins to play... hopeless romantics, here we go again! but after awhile you're lookin' the other way...it's those restless hearts that never mend!"

Paul --
aahhh the age old question of negitive feedback, someone once had the balls here to say they thought part of Misti's screenplay (which seems to have stalled -- will it finish Misti?) was cheesy... I'm all for the constructive stuff, however you may be lynched by the mob at some times.

Dee - You hit the nail on the head! Thank you. But the debate that took place over Misti's 'cheesy' scene was one of the most interesting reads in the blender.

And negative comments are just one person's opinion. If the critisism is helpful then use it. If it is not. Ignore it.

You've restored my faith....I just may keep reading.

From: Misti

Dee,
Yes, it will finish! I've got 20 scenes left to write. I don't have writer's block, I'm just usin' all my creative energy on poetry and journal entries and e-mails! And Paul has helped me out tremendously...he has sent me revisions that have made me laugh out loud. I'm a very hard person to amuse, so from me he gets MUCH respect.
The reason I was so quick to jump to Meg's defense is because I identify so strongly with the submission. And I guess I disagree...I've dated a lot of losers and although I'm the common denominator in my lousy dating history, I think I've been used and abused by a lot of misogynistic jerks. There ARE some good guys out there, I know...Paul, Kirk, mojave, Kevin, the guppy, my brother, my grandfather, George Strait and Pierce Brosnan, just to name a few!
Thank you again, Miss Dee, for creating my web page...the results have been astounding! I owe ya BIG TIME!

thanks for your comments on my poems. This has been a real spew month for me. But it helps so much to come here and get feedback. So forgive me everyone if I have been the poetry spammer this month lol.

Hmm, music. Well Tchaikovski's Piano concerto #1 does it for me for both happy and sad. And I am a dunce about modern music--but I have been recently introduced to the Cowboy junkies and I love their Lyrics. I think the words of one of the songs goes "I think I will fall into a pair of eyes tonite." I love that one! And another called Rock and Bird is my fav sad one.

Hey Paul...

Please do keep reading...onve recently I ventured out with a comment found to be critical, and seriously thought I would be lynched, tarred and feathered, and possibly have my eyes put out with hot pokers...

The souls who inhabit this place are really rather sturdy---but we hate to lose even one, and personally, I'd be happier if the critics were a might bit tougher---on my work in particular. As far as your comment is concerned, I think you were centering more on the "All guys are jerks" theme----and you were not incorrect. But I have read not a few postings that suggested that all women were the word that rhymes with witch...

Suffice it to say that maybe someday men and women will speak the same language, and the same dialect where love is concerned...until then...que sera, sera..........

Gala

From: Paul
Date: 1 April 2000

Gala,
Which is exactly the point I was trying to make. It is too easy for the author to skim the surface and blame their current rantings on the entire opposite sex.
I disagreed with the conclusion of the work. So I tossed out some food for thought.
I tried to buffer my comment but the standard operating procedure here seems to be to attack anyone who doesn't completely agree with a piece.
Had someone made such a blanket statement about women I would have come to their defense as well.
I wonder if Kevin realizes just how pompous his statements came across when he implied I only read poetry and didn't write. Or that he saw women in a different light as opposed to other men.
It was an amazing feat to see someone type without error and still pat themself on the back during the entire comment.
Bottom line is: If 100 people read your work and only 1 likes it, you've still found an audience. It would be impossible to write something that everyone agreed was perfect.

Suggestion? Write something. Put it out for comment. You are entitled to like or dislike whatever you choose. You're even entitled to comment. But if you're being critical, why are YOU so damned afraid of criticism in return?

From: Paul

Gala,
P. S....
The reason for "show" and not "tell" comes from my screenplay background. I was taught that if you can say 2 lines with one, you do it. If you can say a line in three words, you do it. And if you can show it rather than say it, you most certainly do it.
The phrase 'I love you' is worn thin in movies so it is emphasised upon us new writers to come up with creative ways to SHOW the feeling. It's too easy to simply say it. Wouldn't you rather your lover show you how much he loves you rather than simply say it?
I can tell my wife I love her and it sounds trite after a while...but when I leave a rose on her pillow when I come home from working all night...it says far more than those 3 words ever could!

From: mEg
Date: 1 April 2000

Paul:
You weren't giving me a "critique" of my submission - you were trying to give me a "critique" of ME (see what you wrote). I laugh at the idea that you were slapped on the wrist for just giving an opinion... you were trying to dig at me cause my submission really pushed your buttons.

You told me that "I" am my PROBLEM.... Remember?

(to quote -- from Paul's post)

"Now, please, don't take offense but....the one common demnominator in all this is YOU."

That's a shade different than giving me a critique of what I submitted. You don't know whether that submission was fiction or real.... you don't know what the "all of this" really encompasses...

Thanks, Paul. I'll be sure to remember that I have to disclaim all my writing with the statement that I am the reason for any negative relationships in my life. Will all others follow? Will the "do not generalize or say anything that will offend anyone" police please raise their badges so that I can be sure to defer to you for personal insight on my love-life.... real or on paper.

I don't consider you the arbiter of what is trite, over-used, appropriate OR..... TOO GENERALIZED.

Perhaps, as I stated earlier, it's SUPPOSED to be dramatic? To have a sense of ..... "typical frustration".....perhaps the inspiration for writing that wasn't my own relationships but the after-glow of an evening hearing friends bitch & moan about men for 4 hours? Perhaps it has nothing to do with me (the common denominator to all of "this").

Obviously, you are pretty sensitive about the whole male-bashing thing... I will say loud and clear.... I adore men. I love them. I love playing, working, laughing and living with them. I love all things about men.

But unfortunately, even in the modern attempt to be open minded... to not offend "sensitive men".... the honest fact is there are some guys who are pretty messed up.... to OVER UTILIZE a word... they are complete "jerks".

There are women like that...hell, people all over the world are like that of every sex,etc...... but guess what? I don't have to write about them.

I decided earlier I wasn't going to write anything else about this particular topic, but things change. I hope that you, Paul, are reading every submission and letting individuals know from your analysis what their "problem" is...

I'm not slapping you on the wrist for having an opinion. I'm saying that you can't tell diddly about me from that submission. I just think in an effort to give me some analysis, you forgot that not every work of prose or poetry on this site is pulled from personal experience ONLY.

I love men and I'll continue to write about my experiences with them. ((( AND HOPEFULLY THE FUTURE RELATIONSHIPS WILL BE NEITHER DISAPPOINTING........... OR TYPICAL....... AND hopefully all my girl friends will find fabulous men and stop bending my ear for hours on end with complaints))

Typical, mEg

From: Paul
Date: 2 April 2000

mEg,
Uncle. You win. I'm really not trying to start anything here and I was only mildly offended. But I would think you would have to expect that from someone simply because you can't please everyone.
Let me ask you something...does the fact that Washington named their Football team the Redskins bother you? Well I'm part Native American and it doesn't bother me BUT I'm sensitive to the fact that there are those who are bothered by it.
I would have enjoyed the work more if it had came to a different conclusion. That being, YOU are in control of who you date. If that wasn't your aim, so be it. Misti loved it. Several others liked it.
And it aroused me enough to comment. Are you telling me that there is absolutely nothing that can be written here that would offend you? That as long as it is presented as art you wouldn't be bothered?
I read your 'venting' and I came up with that question...did you realize the common denominator here was you, and you responded - yes.
Most work such as this comes from personal experience. I assumed yours had as well. I wish you nothing but the best.

Actually, I DID realize my comment was pompous, even before pressing the "submit comment" button...
But your criticism (personal as it is) is duly noted, even if you only sent it indirectly toward me. I probably would have been better served by an admonishment to resist shooting from the hip. My statement about your comment, was not specifically directed AT YOU, but rather at all the persons who are guilty of projecting generalizations upon the opposite sex. I suppose that means I too was guilty of what I was condemning. Certainly your criticism of mEg seeded my excesses of the day... If I gave you offense, I apologize.

Hi, Paul
Only two things to say... I don't need defense...and I bet you are pretty good in a weighty discussion over coffee (or in my case, shots)...

Aren't those fun sometimes? Especially when immediately followed by a rip-roaring night out dancing with all the buds! Yes....oh I love those kinda nights. SOmething for the head and the soul.

Forgive the legaleeeeeeeeeze of the following, but it's my work style when responding on specific discussion points.

A) Per your post "Let me ask you something...does the fact that Washington named their Football team the Redskins bother you? Well I'm part Native American and it doesn't bother me BUT I'm sensitive to the fact that there are those who are bothered by it."

So you are saying I have to write poems, prose, etc so as not to offend anyone? I have to write with sensitivity? If that's the case, that's waaaaaaaaay too much effort and planning and I just won't submit anything. I can't write so as not to "offend".... This is rhetorical, but it's 5 "Something" AM and I'm just shooting from the hip on my thoughts.

2) As per your post "I would have enjoyed the work more if it had came to a different conclusion. That being, YOU are in control of who you date. If that wasn't your aim, so be it. Misti loved it. Several others liked it."

Actually, it's not control over who I date....what we are talking about is control over what I WRITE. Two different things completely.... who I date and what I write.....

Jeeze if they were related, I wouldn't be dating at all.

All that said, fodder for that submission was just frustration on ePaper. For example, I have more fodder...the reason why I'm up at this ridiculous hour.

I had my 3AM call from my Atlanta Friend -- oh I've written about him before in submissions.. lots of them... couldn't get back to sleep and thought I'd read the new stuff. My Friend telling me about getting thrown out of a club.... his love life, his desire to be a dad and had decided if we had a child someday he'd be the president. But (to quote)..."if it was a girl, she wouldn't be president"... when I asked "why?"...

His reply: "Cause girls cry."

My response: Laughed my butt off and said "Bless Your Heart, she'd be ruler of the world."

Aren't old lovers sometimes a good shot in the arm? All those old memories come back.... and you realize how smart (or not so smart) you have been?

Funny, but 3AM is a real pain in the butt time to get a call --- I used to think it was cute. Now it just makes me think too much.

Night, Paul, keep posting & submitting & livin'.

Nope! I didn't say you have to be P. C., I'm only saying you have to be prepared that someone, somewhere will be offended or bothered. If you take chances with your work, some will accept it, while others scoff.

Go ahead and take chances. I brought up the common denominator input because as soon as I changed my M. O. and stopped dating blondes and girls with the long 'e' sound at the end of their name I suddenly found happiness. But I will forever be attracted to blondes and all the ladies with names such as, Tammy, Debbie, Vicki, Laurie......

Understand what you mean Paul...when I was editing a little mag, my staff would fight for the priviledge of reading their own pieces (We weren't supposed to know who wrote what, avoiding the "popularity contest" issue). The thinking was that a poet could give something to their own work, with their own voice that no one else could----true to a degree---but not the point.

Poetry is written word that must stand on it's own----without the impassioned voice of it's author, or the melting, smouldering look of an actress or actor...and it's been my observation that if it works on paper---it'll be even better read aloud....

Wow......happy Sunday everyone!

I stop by after a couple of days of ghosting, and it seems I missed one fiery debate. After some serious consideration, I have decided not to give my two cents, which realistically id probably only worth a half a cent today. Anyway....

I read the question about the love songs, and after racking my brain, I've decided that I can't actually pick a favorite. Everytime I hear a love song, whether it be happy or sad, it evokes newer feelings of being my 'favorite' and saying exactly what I was looking for, so you see my dilemma.

Off to read the new subs, and perhaps post a few of my own. More to follow later.

Also I have been watching this lil debate unfold between Paul and mEg and even a shot at Kev and I wouldn't be me if I didn't put my comment in...so I will.

I agree with Dee on the Blender community spirit. I think the reason people submit here (or at least the reason I do) is because we are finding "poetic friend" who we can share our work with and share a lil about our lives with. When I submit a poem here its like I am showing it to a best friend who loves poems too. And if someone wanted to critique me they have a write to but DAMN poems are so personal and I try to say everything in MY voice and I can't say I would just go..."okay you think it sucked that is cool."
Does that make sense? And Paul- You seem like a very intelligent person. You have every right to say whatever you feel about a poem. BUT a bit of gentleness in any criticism (especially that which in essence attacked a person as well as a poem) is never a bad thing.

Or maybe I should shut up and mind my own.

Misti- Watched "Forces of Nature" last night and though I have never met you I imagine you as something comparable to Sandra Bullock's character. Which is a good thing.

April Blender is here.

I'm toying with opening up the Ramble/Review to volunteers. It's basicall writing 4 or 5 five parapgraphs about romance, the craft of writing, or a review of some romance related piece. Would people be interested in doing things like that?

Galadrial: A typical month is in the 300s. A lot of that is from a small group of people; on the one hand nurturing a poetic skill takes a long time, and it ties in with the little village of the Blender Board. On the other hand I don't want this place to become *too* insular.

For the record, I think the Board could stand to be a tad more critical, but really I'm not a frequent enough contributor to bend it to my will ;-)

BLENDERITES- Also, i tend to agree with Kirk's statement about "more critical" One of the things writers have a hard time with is criticism of their works. In fact, this fear can be so great that many authors quit writing because they are so afraid of what the "critics" will think. There are so many talented writers here and i think to some degree, there should be a sense of responsibility from the knowledgeable to give "Constructive" feedback and criticism to those starting out and specifically those asking for some feedback. With that said, honesty and tact prevail...If it sucks, let them know why it sucks and offer a suggestion...If you like it, try to describe what about the poem reaches you and why. I've been reviewing and editing written works for much of my adult life and i've learned one thing, you can't please everyone, but you can try your best to be helpful, honest and informative in your critiques.

Congrats to the April picks. I truly enjoyed all of them...and i will try to get back in to the mode of feedback as my pace slows down from the current transition and so i can live up to my own suggestions above.

An Almond Joy would taste really good right now. I can't remember the last time I was this drunk. Chase, you bastard, I miss our two hour sometimes three hour long telephone conversations. Why does sex have to ruin friendship? Why were 70s sitcoms the best? Why doesn't the Decatur Wal-Mart sell Ben & Jerry's? Why wasn't I born up north? GODDAMMIT. I hate not having a fish aquarium. I hate that I have to find a job. I just want to stay home and write.

Misti...next time you have a problem with a bottle that has a cork in it, just take a knife and push the cork into the bottle...my God girl...breaking the neck on the sink. You are going to end up consuming glass!
And sorry..didn't know you liked Almond Joys..I put a Hershey bar in the box with your screenplay revisions.

Morning ALL!

Okay---no false modesty KIRK, I LOVE YOU! I have never been quite as emotionally invested in a poem as I was in Erotic Imaginings/Waterfall. I know----BAD GALA! Breaking Gala's rule! But I loved writing that piece---and Dee's painting was the icing on the cake! Strut Dee Girl---Waterfall is awesome! For it to be a front page pick---especially considering the competition this month---Yowza!

Kev: I make much around here about the ability to do the job with just a few words...Adoration really strikes a chord...thanks Eloquent One...

Dee: When you posted 11:38, I jumped on it, ate it,
and nearly wept...and I'm no push over...

MEGS? Is that you? WITH TWO Blender picks? Oh high five, and Fairy dust all around!

Toklas: You amaze...that simple!

Madison---You rock, pure and simple...and are publicly forgiven for outing my Silly Wench!

Guppy...for a little fish, you sure know how to make waves my dear!

And for everyone---Mojave---some of the newbies---
thank you guys...you floored me on a daily basis...

And Mr. Blender Keeper Guy? Despite my horrible record with spelling, I'd love to try my delicate paw at a ramble sometime---hint hint...Pretty please? With sugar on it? I will consider bribes of baked goods to influence your
decision---I'm not proud! What will it be? Brownies? Cookies? Please?

Oh and by the way---I LOVE EVERYBODY TODAY!!! ALL CAPS........

Gleeful, Giddy Gala

Well I was definitely excited when I logged on and noticed the April issue was out. I was EVEN more excited when I noticed that one of the first and most personal poems I have ever written was included on the front. I'm very critical and unsure about my writing, and "Seduced by No Emotion" was a poem that I felt I should remain anonymous. It was very personal to me and I was afraid it wasn't good enough, but I submitted it anyway. Thank you Kirk for putting that on the front page and making me feel more confident in not only my writing, but in some of my feelings.
Have a good day everyone!!!

Me??? On the front page??? Hehe...nah I am being modest...those poems kicked ass *giggles*
Truly considering the competition I was amazed and so proud. Now if only my momma could stick the monitor on the fridge.
The picks Kirk made were sooooooooo consistent with my faves o' the month. Dee's and Kev's and Gala/Dee's collaboration. And Misti's and Gup's...what a great front page we have.

Kev- I got your Yahoo greeting came before I saw the Blender. I was a TAD confused. Hehe but I loved it :)

Eric- Check out the poems on the front page (click on April issue) The rest are in the Heart On Sleeve Corner. Looks like you are going to become a regular.

I am going to go read the TRILLION new subs I missed in one night. Geez kids we ARE productive here.

Ash- I liked the Diary of Your Night cause I have been there kiddo.
Misti- Lots of yours from the Wine Purge are good. For What its Worth is my fave...
Mojave- I have read "The First Kiss" thing somewhere before. But I really like it this time too. And the latest poem to your "chica loca" well...I want someone to write ME poems. Will you write me one for fun? Hehe...

Anyways I am submitting like Misti now...toasting Tequila Sunrises...didn't the Eagles write a song about those? Yup Yup they did...

Hehe...We are a silly drunken bunch lately.

Toklas...Kirk was right when he said you make writing look effortless. Another equisite piece on the front page.

Loved the last two---think "orchids"...

I'm trying to hold back a bit this month---last month I was utterly shameless...and while I will still be around, I feel the urge to try my hand at other topics as well...and while I know that Kirk doesn't mind the occasional tangental anamoly, I am too much a purist to take up room with something that isn't romantic in nature....

And being an ego maniac, I will no doubt submit something---but love for breakfast, lunch and dinner...?
I gotta sink my teeth into something else from time to time, least I become the Jackie Collins of the Blender...
like I said, I'll be around....

Write on!

I love your site and I am a huge fan of the HEART on a SLEEVE page. However I do personally think that you should have a newsletter that you could send through snail mail (regular post). I unforunatly do not have the opportunity to use the internet everyday and I think it would be useful to have post through Blender of Love.

Keep up the great work!

From: Galadrial
Date: 5 April 2000

BTW---Michelle?

The cost of maintaining even an inexpensive newsletter is boggling---it also takes a lot of time, and the postal rules for bulk are unnerving...

Kirk can answer for himself, but my guess is that if he wanted such a venture, he's have gone for it by now.

I have worked with newsletters---and if I'm lucky will never have to again!

Michelle, I do dtp and designwork for a living and work on several newsletters a month, even for something simple it can sometimes be a huge task to get something that looks even remotely professional.

and for those of you that I missed off my bulk email... here is a repeat, I am just so hyped that I need to be peeled off the roof every 5mins.

A while back a guy I did some freelance HTML work for expressed and interest in my paintings and the Window Displays I used to do and asked if I'd be interested in working with him on a photoshoot, maybe doing painting and/or draping a nude model with a theme 'erotic landscapes' ... YES PLEASE!

Anyways -- he has asked me to work with him and a male model this weekend, (there is a possibility I'd do some posing too -- bit nervous about THAT part) BUT... the GOOD part is, he wants me to do the 'Art Direction' on a shoot over Easter -OHHHHH MY God!!!!!!

Congrats to all the front page Pics!

Tonya, Gala --thank you for your comments. Kirk, I appreciate you finding my lost poem! And thank you for including my work on the Front page.

Gala and Deevaa, I was especially glad to see your collaboration there--I love it!

Kev, I think adoration is one of the finest things you have written!

Madison, the storm in reunion-I liked how you used one image to convey a lot of feeling

Megs, delighted to see your work on the Front page. What I am liking about your poems is that while they are first person narrative--the choice of voice for most young people's poems-- they give me enough specific details to make the reading experience real to me. The first person poems that are of the "l love you kissy face" kind have a sameness that don't do it for me. But reading yours is like reading a journal of a young life that is quite vibrant. Thank you for that!

Misti, Translucent Gold, as I think I told you before, is one of my favourites of yours. Glad to see it on the Front page.

As far as criticism goes, I really appreciate inciteful comments-- but just "I don't like it" does not help much.
We all have different personal taste in styles of writing and there are many styles here. There are poets whose writing I can appreciate for its craft even though it would not be to my personal taste. I would love comments that said they liked a whole work--but that one word stuck out and did not belong--that sort of thing would help.

Misti
Sorry 'bout it takin' so long to get back to ya. Not had a chance to come here till now. Work has been chaotic, to say the least and I've bee utterly exhausted by the time I get home. My apologies, once again.

What I meant by "I Wonder... was "Forever Frenzied" painted a very clear picture for me. I picked up on a rather very insightful "YOU." It felt as though you were saying that you were being moved upon much too quickly. That the feelings you were begginning to feel was not enough for the one you were writing about. Yet, didn't (or couldn't) want to say. You wanted, at the very least for it (love) to be the masterpiece you have (or had) desired for a long time. However, you were bewildered by the strength of feelings coming from the "other". I felt as though the person you were speaking of had other ties or maybe other commitments and you, so very much, wanted (or wished) them gone (the ties or commitments, that is). I felt that (in the poem) this person was also a somewhat new acquaintance, known for a rather short period of time, but had made such an impression on you that you were willing to discard some of the front that we are all guilty of when meeting someone new.

The ending is what grabbed me the most. Your words "A million words to tie us down, One kiss to glisten in the crown" said more to me than the words themselves. I felt that you were weary of words and now wanted action. All it would take is that one tender, loving kiss. Even if it was to be one last kiss, you would feel the same about that "someone" FOREVER. Could there be a future? "The Kiss" would tell all.

i offer some friendly advice about love...don't tear yourself up because of it...love is a good thing...enjoy it while it's there, because nothing is guaranteed...i do know the whole stir crazy, chain smoking, drinking too much, freaking out thing that sometimes goes along with being in love...i've been there...and i've been in the long distance thing too...it's not easy to be far from the one you're going nuts about...just relax, be cool, be patient(as much as possible), and remember that being in love is good...being stressed out is not...

Is It A Crime? (3/31/00)

Is it a crime to love you with all my heart?
Is it a crime to love a girl as beautiful as you?
Is it a crime to love a girl that is so smart?
Is it a crime to be you?
No. Why?
Its just something about you that drives me insane,
Without you my heart is filled with pain.
What I tell you is straight from my heart,
If we ever get together I hope we never part.
Because the love I want to share is true,
And its all about you.
SO WHAT YOU GONNA DO?

Am I enough? How do you know that he loves you and only you..? Is it normal to run each time you start to fall deeper in love? Each time my heart yearns for more. "Run baby run" plays in my head

Is it normal to pick apart a relationship in hopes to find something wrong.
Past failures inhabit me as I sit and wait for them to repeat. Is it normal to need reassurance in his love?

Can someone Help me?

Toke-
I didn't yet acknowledge your compliment from a week ago - thank you for your kind words... I rather liked that poem (adoration) as well...

Niya-
I noticed that no one answered your question... I too liked the title of your poem that Kirk picked... the moon is like love in that you cannot steal what is given freely... At least that was MY thinking...

Gala-
Thanks for your continued kind words... It is pleasing to know that ones words can continue to evoke images and feelings in others...

Crystevin-
Thank YOU for putting us (Blenderites) back in the right direction (and for your comment). Kissing your lover is TRULY one of life's greater pleasures...

as far as poetic comment...

guppy-
I liked your Bug Bunny references (even though *I* have personally never seen the dude here in the 'Burque)... and the texture of "subjective morphology" brought back some memories of how hard love can be if you are not tuned to each other's wavelength... it happens sometimes in every relationship.

Gala-
as someone who has been four-eyed for the last 27 years, the Clark Kent thing is not to be overrated! <wink> In fact, my sweetie started looking better to me when SHE started having to wear prescriptive eyewear (I say ALWAYS make passes at girls who wear glasses!)...

Toklas-
I absolutely adored the lines "I love you like I am sixteen-- / We die in each other's arms / Dancing on poems"... Would you sell me the map to that "Lost Lagoon?"

Megs-
Miss ya girl... I have to say (I know I've told you this already) that I could not have loved "Green When She Cries" any more than I already do... Except that each time I read it, another wonder presents itself... Thank you for sharing it with us.

You are right about love being represented
by the moon. When the world has broken down

Kirk -- in the nicest possible way, you rock my world!

Kev, Gala, Toks, Megs, et al... I'm sorry I've been so remise at offering comment recently, my head and heart are in a turmoil and ones off in one direction while the other is somewhere else (and don't even ASK what my body is doing!) ... my stars sum it up nicely "just because the path looks familiar it might not lead to the same place, he might not do what the last one did, give him a chance."

and to the sweet man who left the message in my inbox this morning, these must be the most romantic words I've heard, ever... "I would bet your heart is the same gold that angels halo's are made from" -- please play fair!

From: Misti
Date: 11 April 2000

Dee,
Yes, definitely! First of all, there is something magical about a Pisces man and Libra woman in love. I'm using my sister (Autumn, a Libra) and her first love (Juste, a Pisces) as a reference. Even though my sister is engaged to another guy (Jeff, a Capricorn), Juste still cares about her. He actually called my mom to see if Autumn is "really happy"!
Beyond that, your Libra sun trines his Aquarius moon, which is an awesome aspect. And your Cancer moon trines his Pisces sun! That's powerful!
You also have strong Mars-Venus aspects. His Mars, which is in Aries, trines your Venus, which is in Sagittarius. That's way good! And your Mars, which is in Taurus, squares his Venus, which is in Aquarius. Square aspects denote tension, but in this case, it is obviously sexual tension. A little bit of that is always muy bueno! Oh, and your Jupiters like each other! Your Jupiter in Aquarius trines his Jupiter in Gemini.
In short, the stars are twinklin' for ya! Have fun!

Sorry to offend you posting a link to my website, but I LOVE it....so since I LOVE it...I put it on the LOVE blender.

Besides, I only said it two or 3 times, is it that hard for you to just NOT READ what i wrote? Come on, I came here to share poetry and to talk with people, that's why this is a board to share stuff...

And I thought everyone was supposed to be nice here, most people have been so far...till now

Anyway, thanks for being rude, I'll stop writing about my website, I was going to put my poetry on it, other people tell about their websites in their comments, so i figured I'd put my poetry on there. But nevermind, I won't do that now.

Everyone's work on the subject of "The Kiss" were wonderful and nice to see different points of view on the same subject...Braeden I particularly liked yours.

Misti- I loved Star Route because it helped me feel some of that new found starry eyed joy that comes with new love. Hard to recapture.

Dee- "And we danced"...and I loved that quote you said the Pisces guy sent you. As a Pisces myself...my romantic side was completely swooning...

Mojave- loved all your works. That is nothing new. You also seem to be an inspiring muse :) You must be one HELL of a guy to make someone so happy.

Oh and Kirk...your cartoon made me laugh out loud...great pick there

Did I forget anyone? It could be a bit of a week before I get back here...so a kiss blown to my fave Fairy Godmother and Uncle Kev (who owe me emails) and a toast to Misti (as usual) and everyone else...live a stress free weekend for me cause I have a 20 page paper (am I harping on that?)

A country girl with eyes of brown
And sunshine in her hair
A love so sweet has ne’er been known
Or a beauty quite as fair

A caring heart she doth possess
Her kindness doth abound
The lips of friends form into smiles

Entrance the wandering glance
For when one sees true beauty’s glow

Hey Megs----

The "chaos"is when every moment of your day has someone elses name on it----and you would kill to enjoy the simple pleasure of drinking your morning coffee---and not having to do six things at the same time.

What can make love making sweet---even when you're old like me (very evil grin) is that you can't do anything
else at the same time. You HAVE to enjoy every single moment...YES!!!!!!

From: Megs
Date: 13 April 2000

Gala- Well I tossed in my own verison of chaos. Amongst the (in retrospect) rather lackluster contributions made today. I thought submitting would calm me down a little...but instead the perfectionist vibe that is making it IMPOSSIBLE to write my damn legal studies paper is attacking my creativity too.
Maybe I should have written that in the email I was about to compose to you...whoops :)
Consider this in your inbox instead...I have to run
Sorry fairy godmother :(

I just wanted to say that I love tie site. I'm not sure if you take submissions, but here is a sonnet I wrote for my English class. It's the best thing I've ever wrote,
janet

Walking in a dark forest full of crows
Memories of waves hitting the ocean
Watching the river as it swiftly flows
Looking at you I lose all of my speech

The past months with you have felt like a dream
It felt like heaven when we first embraced
The smile on your face, it just seems to beam
Your love could never ever be replaced

Thinking of you is making me rejoice
My love for you will never start to fade
I realize I have made the right choice
You mean more than any ruby or jade

Friendship has evolved into something more
When I am by your side, my heart, does soar.

Yikes! Sorry for the outage- my bank got merged, my old debit card was cancelled, and since I had two web accounts charged to it ( kisrael.com and loveblender.com) I hit their "two month and we cancel" limit in a single month, so I just got the one "please call us" message and no other warning! ezpublishing.com , who are generally pretty good, are undergoing transitions with their billing systems, so this kind of stuff falls through the cracks.

Nah, no donations. Let it just me by way of paying the Internet back for A. being so darn cool and B. giving me a job letting me earn far more than I'm worth ;-)

But for someone out of debt and doing quite all right financial wise, I seem to have more than my fairshare of credit card problems-- most often because up until a month ago I never used credit cards, just bank debit cards that end up having random credit limits. (well, more random after my bank changed-- grr)

From: Misti

Dee,
Those crazy stars! Ha! They say the darnedest things, I swear.
Cool coincidence: The moon was in Virgo when I was born! Since I was born at 6:29 p.m., I also have Virgo risin'! Here is what Linda Goodman has to say about THAT:
...The "Virgo the Virgin" stuff is only symbolic, so you may as well forget it and come to terms with the fact that she'll leave you for someone else if you don't love and appreciate her in return. She wants romance as much as any of her zodiac sisters, but she expresses it differently. Her passion commingles with devotion and unity. She is what she appears to be: determined to pursue solid, lasting happiness and the simple things in life.

Hey, i found a bug in the submission thing- if there was a " in the title or author field, it would probably not work, because it would put the title or name in a hidden field, and the quote mark would confuse it. Food for thought. Someone said they thought the blender was for 'things they loved' while someone replied it was for romantic love. Which is it?

I personally believe that the only true love in this world is that which exists between a parent and a child. That certainly would NOT qualify as romantic love.

Tanq -- I've followed your postings with pleasure (not to mention recognition of the feelings therein, but then isn't that why we're all here?). Well done and I hope to see more. Thanks for the credit -- I'm pleased (and humbled) to think that I could inspire something in someone whose writing I respect. Hope your muse graces you with her presence soon.

Loved your "Hi" poem. My comment on my submission was cut off. it read "inspired by Kirk's "--Hi" and his comment about "In verse" relationhip between romance and writing poetry. Anyway Kirk, loved your piece.

OK, I am going to be VERY naughty and very shameless... (gotta adore that about me!!!)

A cafe in town has contacted me and said they'd like to show some of my paintings on their walls, and I know I've mailed everyone on my work mailing list, and posted a plea at MyFamily... but PLEASE, I'm after opionions on which paintings I should get framed for the showing?

Even if you don't think you know anything about art -- just look at my site, pick any that you like and let me know, (deevaa@paradise.net.nz) I'm wanting 'general appeal' paintings rather than 'high artistic value' paintings.

I'm thinking the 'recline series', and maybe 'mermaid', 'the dancer' and one other -- at this stage, maybe 'blue water colour dreaming' ... if anyone has a free moment http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/~deevaa/
<grin> Even if you read this board but have never emailed me in your life... help me... please!

Sonnet 1

Oh what dreary days are so swept away,
Thick of dust and clouded with hope in mourn,
By the uplifting light your eyes do sway.
Such that death is forgotten and life born,
Anew each moment felt in thy presence.
Tommorow, my dying wish, must be met
To experience thee, or else I will tense,
A torture my soul cannot bear nor let...
Thy glistening light preserves my courage
For this life's unexpected challenges.
Sweep my days dust, and in return a wage
Of an eternal love my heart pledges.
Know that my love is strong beyond this earth,
And will continue after e'ry birth...

Hey look its me...
And everyone is saying hmmmmmm...who is Megs? I think I remember that name.

Ok so first the Blender disappeared and then I went in to hiding to compose the paper from hell. The damn thing really is just 15 pages of bad luck. You will not BELIEVE everything that could go wrong in the process of writing one paper. Highlight of my evening was while putting the finishing touches on pg 12 lightening struck and God decided I needed to start all over.

But its DONE now and I can't wait to turn the Godforsaken thing in.

So that's MY excuse...
And there are about a hundred good new subs that I totally took the morning to read.

Toke- Your 'In Verse' is just perfect. I loved it. I have BEEN there. Wish I could have thought to describe it like that.

Gala- Nice work with 'Carpe'...There are so many good little lines...you rock FGM :)

Kev- Ummm I would complement something you had written especially if it was an email to me...:(

Misti- I love your website...and the latest poem is great...you can TOUCH the radiance coming from this girl...

Where to start? I've done my 'new subs' duty -- hehehe...

"Hi–" and "in Verse"
yes yes yes... you have both got this girl thinking, same theme different tune, its all bizarre I sware!

"tangled" by Kiwi
nice... (is that Kiwi as in NZer? if so, another kiwi chick in da house! whhoooohoooooo -- if not.. well, um hi!)

"Carpe Darling"

Gala -- you just rock, way to go girl.

Now, Autumn -- I don't normally give negative feedback, but you did ask, and well this one did hit me, I generally love erotica, especially poetry, but you've managed to write in ever sexual cliché -- "firm fullness of my twin towers"???

All the line about jutting breasts glowing in the moonlight needed was it to say 'streaming in the window' and it'd be the perfect cliché ... I don't profess to be the best erotica writer in the world, but I know good stuff when I see it, and sorry, this didn't do it for me. But thats ONLY MY OPINION.

*blushing* thankyou thankyou Gala!

Misti -- "When you say nothing at all" MMmmmmmm.... it reminds me of something kinda funny. When I was in Ohio last year with my online sweetheart, Unit305 we where driving to German Village and he was playing me a CD by his favourite singer Alison Kraus (who I'd never heard of, she hasn't made it to NZ yet) and that song came on.

Later when I was back in NZ I heard the song on the radio by Roland Keating (ummm... I think, or some other British 'boy' band) and it brought back such vivid memories of being with Unit that I email him about it, asking if that song reminds him of our time together, and he responded saying, sorry that it doesn't at all.. but another song did.

Then about 2 weeks ago, I was in a store buying clothes and that song is playing -- the 'boy band' version... and the exact thought that popped into my head was "oh, its that song that doesn't remind Don of me." Hehehe, when I got home and phoned him to tell him he was laughing so hard I couldn't get a straight word from him!

Now when ever he hears the song by Alison Kraus he says he chuckles to himself about my stupid thoughts!

I hope it doesn't put you off the song.. but I always get a laugh out of that....

As for your search for "Him"...believe me, it all begins with a list! How well I know. To quote from one of my own poems (actually, this is the poem in its entirety!):
you gotta keep on casting that bread upon the waves
love sho don't keep

A lot of you are interested in dreams and the like- I think. Anyway, I just found a cool site: http://www.nonDairy.com/slow/wave.cgi
The idea is people submit dreams they've had, and then they are illustrated- very well- in a 4 panel comic form. It's very effective. It's neat seeing the weirdness of other people's dream narrative- it's both strange and oddly familiar.. be sure to check out the archives.

Marble Lady painting by Jaisini

In his art, Jaisini insists on overcoming of the dehumanization, the suppression of sensuality. In every historical period there are ideas and problems which are expressed and will not come to pass. Jaisini seeks to identify this idea in the present, excavate it from the past, and invent it in a new way for the future. In the murky, anxious world of ours, in the midst of the soul's confusions and the multiplying moral losses, the artist seeks and always finds some big and small islands of "eternal truths," and asserts the indestructible age-long parables that reveal these truths in the new light, in his own system of sign-images. I realize that the more you look at "Gleitzeit" works and think, the more you see, feel, and understand, but never completely, as given work always has too many aspects. There is always some kind of "space" in the painting, on which the observer feels free, without a persistent prompting of the artist, to use his own system of perception. To me, "Marble Lady" seems as a late modern modification of the Greek myth of the sculptor Pygmalion, who used his illusionist skill to satisfy a private fantasy of the ideal woman. Disappointed by the imperfections of the opposite sex, he created Galatea out of marble and during a festival in honor of venus, Pygmalion prayed for a woman as perfect as his statue. Venus answered his prayer by bringing his statue to life and eliminated the boundary between reality and illusion. In Jaisini's "Marble Lady," the object of the intense desire remains alluring, yet perpetually distant. Desire of the others is often imagined in terms of a fetish. The so-called civilized man can be considered in his delight of female form.

In "Marble Lady," we find the two types of spectatorship: the masculine and the non-masculine. Therefore, an image of the woman is defined through the desire of both spectators, the unmanly poet and the savage who may well be a subscriber to "Penis Power Quarterly." The statue of Galatea was and still is the symbol of fictional perfection, a result of the search for ideal woman that parallels the artist's own creative urge. Post-feminist culture has found a way to reinvent the woman as she once was: eager to appear The "Marble Lady" enables male domination by being unreachable and desirable. The construction of such a female identity fiction can inspire both high and low natures. In all of his works, Jaisini unites both of these principles, integrating art into the material life, breaking out of art's ivory tower.
"Marble Lady" is a compact, pyramidal composition of the "trio." As in all of his works, Jaisini subdues the figures to the articulation of line and its rhythmic connection between forms in space, a sort of analytical process, based on the line swinging which starts up ideas, shapes, and colors. The line arabesques are these highly individual textures of Jaisini's art. A decorative role of the painting's color is to create the temperature contrast of the heated environment with the marble-cold statue.

In modern and postmodern times, there are increasingly fewer outlets for sensual urges and desires which lay at the origin of human society that imposes restrictions. Sexuality remained beyond the scope of most art history. Interaction between male and female is still responsible for the continued functioning of the universe.

Monday - April 24, 2000

Hi Blender,

Did I tell you I do a weekly dating and love advice column from a manly perspective in SingleSites and SinglesStop plus two newspapers; The Coast News in Del Mar and La Jolla and the Madera County Times? May I send you some articles? I know you will find them both fresh and entertaining. Why am I doing this? To interest you in a weekly column that will build traffic to your site.

Every Internet magazine says you must change your site frequently if you want to keep people coming back. Unless you have consistent traffic to your site, you are going to lose money. Why? Because hits are the name of the game.

By mailing you a new article every week, I will refresh your site. All you do is copy and paste once a week for one minute. I guarantee you will get more hits because my articles bring out emotions (you don't care if they love me or hate me as long as they come back!). Your goal is to get every single guy and gal into your club so they can give you money - only a controversial weekly column will keep them coming back.

There are 36 million single straight men over eighteen in America alone. I am the only love doctor whom they can talk to - there is no competition. Ask yourself if Dear Abby or John Gray could write this:

"After Tom talks to Caprice, he must say, "What is your home phone #? Even though he is dying on the inside he must get those six words out of his mouth. Her answer will tell us: that she is going out with Tom because he got her number, or that she isn't going out with Tom because she is moving to Montana to get her head together. Tom must test Caprice to find out what her Interest Level is in him ASAP. As my cousin Fast Eddie Love would put it: 'Nothing starts without the woman's home phone number.'" Whether Tom is in Mexico City or Quebec, Hong Kong or Katmandu - the principle of closing is the same. " Remember guys, "You gotta' ask for the home phone #."

No contracts and no cost. What have you got to win?

Please prove to me that you do not hate money and say, "Yes!"

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Have fun,

OK... first several non-poetry related comments..

Number 1:
in big capital letters. Guppy baby -- I LOVE you, like in the deepest most sincerest way... you rock, you make me giggle when my days are grey, even when your maths homework sucks, you make me smile for all the best reasons and you are the most ummm.... freaking wonderful 'friend that is male' alive... bar TK of course.
Thankyou for being everything and for being you.
(and no, he didn't do anything special to deserve it, I just wanted to share that amongst my friends)

Number 2:
Thankyou Gala for explaining a peep, I was planning on just smiling blankly and pretending like I knew what was up.... <giggle> it gets me through most other things.

Number 3:
Kev, Gala, Meg, Kirk, Angel, and assorted others who brighten my inbox and KNOW I didn't mean to leave them off the list.... thankyou for being wonderful, amazing supportive friends even when I've been useless.

Number 4:
I've not read any new subs so there IS no poetry related stuff....

Number 5:
Men can be useless and forget that other people can't read their minds, but I've learnt in the past few days that its my attitude that counts... <smile> and hell, I'm smiling, I may be single, but I am LOVED.

Happy belated Easter. I know..it loses something when it is past, but it's the thought that counts.
I have only read a few of the new subs (i'm really sorry)...but it seems that everyone is getting better and better. I wonder, does it ever stop?

Made it back from my trip ok...and Mojave is probably the only one who knows what I am talking about. It was fabuluos, although what will come of a long distance relationship that started on the internet, I have no idea. Who knows? Life is funny sometimes.

Keep loving, everyone...and maybe I'll have some new work soon!

Hello, fellow Poets...& Poetesses (not a true word I am sure, but it fits the mood I am in, so I beg a little leeway for my abuse of the English language).

Well, that was certainly an interesting take on the genaralization of sucky poems...although me personally...I prefer to have one poem suck than the whole damn lot of them... :) Alas...everyone is a critic (whether good or bad....)

On to the Poetry...there is a lot of great stuff out there...I am forever amazed that you guys can write such touching pieces, and then come back with something more moving than the last. Sorry for the generalization, there, but I happen to think that this bunch of people is great, and so is their work.

That's it from me for today. Having a problem with inspiration...don't know where it went off to, but I am sure it lies somewhere in the heart of Texas....

Every once in a while, a poet will write a piece...and the more they read that piece, the more it grabs at them. 'A Warning' is one of those pieces, and the more I read it, the more it grabs at me, and makes me realize how many moments I look back on and wish I could do differently. Hopefully, I won't have so many moments this time around.

Just had to get that out...sorry all.
