Hope

It was a rainy Thursday night, but this did not dampen her mood. She smiled as she stepped out of the car, thinking of her beau who she was to meet this night. How glad she would be to see him again.

She slowly picked a path over the glistening wet cement, and crossed the road to the store. People were all about, doing late night shopping or catching a ride home from work. They whirled past her, not knowing or caring about her date that night.

Alone she was, yet many people stood near. She waited under the awning of the entry to the store, and watched the world scurry by, momentarily wondering where each person was headed. What would they think of her, standing in a corner, clutching her purse and shawl to her body, starting to worry whether he would turn up at all.

The wind stirred her ling dress as she nervously paced the walkway. Many people were about, but she could not see him at all. Her hope was starting to fade, but she still in her heart wanted to believe. She turned to the door and walked into the store, where it was quieter; she could not hear the rain. She walked quickly through the store, and searched the room for his face.He had gone the manager told her, but wait and he'll be back for you.

Nervous from being in a strange place, she stood, patiently waiting for his return. What would she say to him? Should she be cross or joyful? Would he actually come back? She spied him coming, anxiety written on his face. Then when he saw her standing still and relief flooded his face, she smiled.
