Without

When my heart aches
And my stomach rumbles
I try to put the all the questions and uncertainties
Out of my mind.

My unsettled nerves and
My quivering words
Want to say to you -
I love you, and what would I do without you?

What would I do without -
The gentle way you hold me when you know I am scared
Without the way you make me smile
What would I do without -
The simple knowledge of your presence and love in my life.

You are my lover and my friend
A piece of my soul and I of you
I can't help but wonder if our chance meeting had never occurred
Would I have continued my life as I had been -
Feeling as though a piece of me was missing?

You know, I really do not want to know
That sort of pain
Because it makes my heart ache and my stomach rumble
Just to think about, there not being an us.
