They're Playing Our Song

I sat down in a chair against the wall,
As I watched you laughing with our friends, you kept looking at me.
Each time you looked, we stared a little longer.
As you started toward me, you smiled my smile.
Your eyes asked me to dance, and my eyes accepted your offer.
You lead me out onto the dance floor, and I felt my heart beating faster.
You put my arms around you as you held me close to you,
And I could hear your heart beating faster too.
The music played on, and I rested my head on your shoulder as before.
I whispered, ver softly in yur ear,
"They're playing our song".
I heard you laugh, then you held me a little closer.
You held me closer, I held you tighter, never wanting to let go.
When you rested your head on my hair, I wanted to cry,
I remembered the first time you did that, all those years ago.
I knew that this was as close as you would ever let me get to you,
And this was as close as we would ever be, as we ever could.
I remember that when the music stopped, you had to tell me,
Cause I didn't know there was any music...
I just knew that the one I had loved for so long was holdong me.
Me. For once you were holding me in your arms. For once.
Yes, just once, when you realized that it was just me.
That song still plays on. Somewhere.
It's not at any dance or any party, or in any music store.
It's right here in our hearts,
That's where it's been all along.
Go figure...
