Splinters

His thoughtless words were like splinters in my heart.
Her kind and gentile ways are like splinters in yours.
Your devotion is admirable, but futile.
My devotion to you is equally doomed.
As you so sweetly put it, he doesn't deserve me...
That's so funny.
Guess what? Her heart deserves you.
I coax you from the sidelines as the arrows pierce my heart.
You smile sweetly and turn away.
I smile back as the knife -you put there unknowingly-
Turns inside of me.
I can't understand why, but you took his splinters outta me...
And replaced them with your own brand.
You can't see splinters, but you just know they're there.
