THE PRICE

Why are we so blind
to the cost of our sins?
Can it be because we're not
paying for our own but for other's?

I've heard it said,
"What goes around, comes around."
But I no longer believe that's true.
Someone else's go around, comes back around,
gets billed straight to you.

The price can be high,
the price can be low.
And which it is,
till we've already bought,
we don't know.

But once the invoice is delivered,
there is no ducking out.
I get to pay for your sins,
someone else gets to pay mine.

The price can also compound,
expand, add up in a wink.
To a sum that is staggering,
unbearable, feels downright impossible,
to pay off, and your life's all red ink.

Loving.
Then losing me.
That's the price you got to pay,
for her feeling betrayed.

Loving.
Then losing you.
That's the price I got to pay,
for leaving him.

Now you're feeling unloved
and my feelings of guilt
has ruined this love of ours,
broke both our banks.
