I Can't Understand

Have I lost the only one for me?
But I know I can't lose anything that I've never posessed.
Please say you care for me,
Just tell me you're mine, 
Say you'll never leave again, that you will stay by my side.
Absence makes the heart grow fonder-
That's what they say,
But "they" forgot a thing or two.
Angels who leave can kill the one who loves them,
How does it feel to be the one one who turns the knife inside of me?
If you could read my mind, you'd know how hard I try,
If love wasn't meant to be,
Then why have this hold on me?
With all those tears I cry, I should have realized-
That I might never hold you again,
I can't understand, but I'll love you till the end of time.
I've searched my memory for a reason you don't love me back,
So if we next meet as just friends,
Again my heart will break - 
If that's how you want the story to end, then I can't understand.
