Phantom's Secret

We wove a dream of love together,
in a soft world of twilight.
Where in the shadows of a fantasy,
with no sharp edges, safely we could play.

Thinking our hearts
were ready and open,
we invited each other in,
asked each other to stay.

We danced and sang,
in this hazy, happy dreamland,
till we decided,
we could live outside it.

But when we crossed
from fantasy to reality, we found,
one heart...happy and free, ready to love and be loved.
one heart...shackled, in chains, still in complete and total pain.

For in the harsh light of a Cape Cod day,
with no more distance to hide it,
in the flesh, standing before me,
touching you with love, exposed the secret.

The secret I'm not sure
you even knew.
A secret hidden so well across the miles,
I truely didn't know or have a clue.

But once I held you, it came out.
HER NAME.
Etched deeply,
all over your still bleeding heart.

Oh, how I cried.
I don't think at first you knew,
the limits it placed on me,
how little love I would be allowed to give you.

It held me back.
Broke my heart.
Made you turn from me.
Blew all my hopes and dreams apart.

Oh my Phantom,
in a way I nearly envy it.
You must have once loved her so desperately.
To still be holding her, to you so tightly.

Even after all the pain, all the agony,
all the heartache, all the words of hate,
you say have passed
between you.

After all this time.
Even with the love you thought with me you found.
You still could not, with me, betray her,
be unfaithful, with your body.

Please my man.
My sweet and gentle Wayne
please try
and let her go.

To be stuck in the past,
with such hurt forever,
is to have no chance,
for a life at all.

Now your pain, causes me pain,
locks up my heart, in chains.
And now I have to learn,
how to let you go.

I need flowers of love
to grow in my heart.
I won't plant the seeds
to grow the weeds of more pain.
