Engaged

After years of indecision
she finally acquiesced
Ten years ago
this turn of fate
she never would have guessed.

She fantasized of passion
and magic without doubt
but ten years ago
the invitations
weren't yet coming out.

Now with dresses 
in her closet 
that she'll never wear again
and baby booties
yet to wrap
she throws back one more gin.

With a shaking hand
whe wipes a tear
that managed to break free
and fell upon the ring
that's unhinged her sanity.
