Shedding Midnight

I step on your
fallen laugh. It lays crippled
on the floor
under foot
in the presence of my tears.

Kick up mud, and
my murky instinct
will allow only the false light
of you
through.

Your accidental aggression
no longer surprises me, and power’s
echo
rings through my ears.
You’ve offered me
armoured freedom.
(must be made of foil)

Shedding midnight,
the empty glow of
darkness,
inside and out,
straightens this feeble flower.
Realization
strengthens this crooked stem.

Fading burden,
ease off my shoulders
(and pounce on him).
